plans for a controversial waste facility in Clacton have been turned down.
More than 400 people signed a petition against plans to open a waste transfer station at Chaston Business Centre, in Oxford Road.
Clacton-based Three D Communications wanted to change a waste store there into a site for sorting non-hazardous commercial waste.
Essex County Council refused the application because insufficient information was provided on likely noise levels from the site.
Campaigner Sylvia Critchley, of nearby Thornbury Road, said: “We hope this application doesn’t rise again. We didn’t want it so close to homes for health and safety reasons.
“As well as noise, we were also concerned about dust and vermin.”
However, Three D director Dave Chapman said the company planned to try again with a revised application.
