A COUNCILLOR has spoken of his surprise after cannabis was found being grown in a house in Dedham.
Police arrested a 43-year-old man after searching a property in Forge Street.
The man, from Ilford, was arrested on suspicion of using electricity without authority and producing a Class B drug.
He has been bailed until October 6.
Christopher Garnett, Colchester councillor for Dedham, congratulated the police on the raid.
He said: “I understand this sort of thing takes place in other parts of the country, but in Dedham, it’s most unusual.
“Full marks to the police for putting a stop to it when they did.”
Det Sgt Terry Balding, of Essex Police’s divisional intelligence unit, said the raid had been part of an ongoing operation to stop the sale and production of drugs.
He urged anyone with concerns about any property to call the police, on 0300 3334444.
