A DEDICATED police officer will be on duty to monitor trouble after Colchester United’s next match.
The U’s play Leeds United at home on Saturday, and while officers do not expect trouble, the sheer number of supporters expected could push the police to their limits.
A detective will be based at Colchester police station from 10pm to monitor the PubWatch radio and co-ordinate any response needed.
Speaking at yesterday’s meeting of Colchester PubWatch, Insp Paul Butcher said: “We are going to have quite a lot of officers on duty. We are expecting quite a lot of supporters in town, but not causing trouble.
“It is key we receive intelligence and feedback from premises in the town centre to head off any trouble early on if necessary. Be vigilant, but don’t be concerned.”
The league game kicks off at the Weston Homes Community Stadium at 3pm.
