SWIMMERS are to get the chance to use Dovercourt Swimming Pool for a little longer each week.
Owner Tendring Council, is revising the pool’s opening hours to give ordinary swimmers more time in the water.
The changes will increase the overall amount of public swimming time, making popular children’s fun sessions a regular feature and introduce a new class for youngsters.
Public swimming time at the pool , in Low Road, will increase by a total of two-and-a-half hours on Thursdays from September 7, with the centre now opening from 9.30am until 1.15pm.
Trial children’s fun sessions with inflatables have proved so popular the council has decided to run regular weekly sessions between 2pm and 4pm on Sundays. Finally, the council is starting a new after-school junior aqua aerobics class for 11 to 16-year-olds on Wednesday afternoons between 3.50pm and 4.30pm. The first will be on September 9 and will cost £2.
Stephen Mayzes, councillor responsible for leisure, said it was important the council’s facilities met the needs of the local community.
He added: “The aim is for each of the district’s leisure centres to be tailored to help residents enjoy a better quality of life,” he added. We are striving to provide sustainable and excellent facilities for everyone.”
