FRESH from the stage of the Bloodstock Open Air Festival, Sower are heading this way for gigs in Witham and Colchester.

The five-piece metal outfit recently played the unsigned stage at the Derby festival, which regularly sees an attendance of 10,000.

On Saturday, the group will show amateur bands what they can achieve when they headline at the Talent Contest and Backshots Festival, at Spring Lodge, in Witham.

Then, on October 22, the band will perform as support for Sylosis at the Twist, in Military Road, Colchester, and again at the venue as support for Gama Bomb on November 12.

Formed in late 2007 by Tom Brooks, co-founder of death metal outfit Cold Lazarus, and Jim Hughes, primary songwriter and lead/rythmn guitarist in Motion Parallax, the pair discovered their opposing melodic verses thrashy styles were strangely complementary.

The childhood friends turned to Tom’s former bandmate Smac, which allowed the friends to fine-tune fresh material.

From May 2008 Weanie was taken on for bass duties, followed by Pip, frontman and co-founder of Cold Lazarus.

Since performing together, the band has headlined at Essex University, and been support at Underworld.
