A QUIET cup of coffee turned into a nightmare for one mum when tempers reached boiling point.

Claire McNally was enjoying a drink in Cuppa Coffee, in High Street, Harwich, with her daughters when Scarlett, two, began to cry.

Much to Claire’s shock and surprise, after failing to calm Scarlett, she was asked to leave the shop by the manager after customers began “rolling their eyes”.

Claire, a regular customer, said she was embarrassed and angry.

She said: “I gave Scarlett some of my drink, but when I took it away from her she started to cry.

“I put her back in her buggy, gave her the dummy and tried to calm her down, but it was only a few minutes later that I got asked to leave.

Claire, 25, of Station Road, Harwich, said Scarlett was not crying for long and no one complained.

But that didn’t help her case and she left with Scarlett and baby Teale.

Miss McNally added: “I would have done the responsible thing and left if Scarlett had carried on crying, but she calms down really quickly.

“It was a horrible experience. I will be looking for another cafe.”

Manager Mandy McCready, who pledged to talk to Miss McNally over the “misunderstanding”, said she had just wanted to maintain peace.

She said: “The child had been crying for ten to 15 minutes and customers were rolling their eyes at me, so I asked her to go outside and pacify the child. I didn’t throw her out.

“People come in here for a relaxing cup of coffee and I wanted to maintain that.”
