COLCHESTER can’t wait for the new term to start at Essex University, with some of the biggest DJ names in the business turning up for freshers’ week.
As with most of the events held at the university’s Sub Zero nightclub venue, all of the club nights in the first week of October are open to the public as well as the student population.
The week starts with Radio One DJ Edith Bowman on Monday, October 5. Regularly appearing at festivals such as Glastonbury and T in the Park, for both BBC Radio and TV, Edith is one of the longest standing primetime DJs at Radio One.
She joined in 2003, co-hosting a show with Colin Murray, but has had her own afternoon slot for the past few years.
Edith started her career with MTV through which she has interviewed some of the biggest names in the business such as Liam Gallagher, Robbie Williams, U2 and Kylie.
On the Tuesday one of the biggest club DJs on the European circuit, Sash, is booked.
Starting his career in 1995 no one could have predicted the dance phenomenon Sash would become. Starting with the track It’s My Life, he quickly followed it with Encore Une Fois, which, with the help of French vocalist Sabine Ohmes, became a massive hit and the trance anthem of a generation.
On the Wednesday there’s another Radio One DJ, Zane Lowe.
The cool New Zealander hosts the evening slot, pioneering some of the best new bands around, so Colchester clubbers can expect plenty of new tunes as well as some of the best dance sounds around.
The week is rounded off on Saturday with Clash of the Titans as some of the biggest names from Kiss FM take on their opposite numbers on BBC1Extra.
