WITH a combined age of 486, there’s no doubt this new band have experience on their side.
A group of Clacton musicians with an average age of 69 came together to form the group, Sentimental Journey, and play in a range of styles from classical to swing.
The band started from a chat in a cafe, when a group of friends realised they could put their various musical talents together.
It has grown over time into a seven-piece ensemble, including 79-year-old singer, Katie Fassenfelt, Ernestine Hedger, 71, on the accordion; Dave Smith, 68, on trumpet; Jim Fish, 75, on harmonica; Maxwell Sainsbury, 71, on piano, bass and oboe and Dave Andrews, 69, playing the ukelele.
Pianist Sue Rees is the baby of the group signing in at just 53.
Singer Katie said age was not a concern for any of the members.
She said: “I don’t think it matters. If you have got the talent to do it, then do it! Look at the Rolling Stones for example.
“I often think that what I didn’t do when I was younger, I am doing now.
“I have brought up my family and now I have gone back to what I have always enjoyed.”
