FIRST aid volunteers at an air show helped to rush a woman to hospital after she went into labour.

The St John Ambulance team were about to leave Clacton Air Show after a fairly quiet two days when they were approached by the woman, who had gone into labour at the show, last Friday afternoon.

She and her partner were safely transported to Colchester Hospital by ambulance.

Visitors to the air show were well protected by medical teams, which included a mobile emergency operations centre, ambulance, the North East Essex Doctors service, and a paramedic bicycle for rapid access to the promenade and sea front.

Between them, they dealt with about 80 minor injuries during the two days of the show.

Gideon Chilton, the East of England Ambulance Service’s clinical manager for Tendring, thanked all the medical teams who attended.

He said: “The mutual co-operation was of the highest standard and ensured both swift and correct treatment.”
