I was disgusted to read the letter by Bob Hibbert complaining about the Clacton Air Show (Gazette, Tuesday).

It must be a very difficult job to arrange such a show, especially if the weather is not reliable.

But never mind, he will no doubt take it on and everything will be OK.

Thankfully, Charles Horncastle’s letter was more to my taste. Seeing the Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane flying over took me back to my teenage years, standing in Mill Street watching the British bombers flying out on their night-time raids, and hearing them return during the night, hoping all had made it.

During the day we watched Flying Fortresses going on their daylight raids, returning later with engines out of order and smoke pouring from them.

We saluted them as well as all those who played their part to make us safe. This still holds good and certainly does not require stupid comment.
