A RETIRING headteacher handed over the keys to her replacement as a school began its new term.
Former headteacher Jane Clarke handed over to Melanie Vine at Earls Colne Primary School.
As well as pupils having to get used to a new headteacher, they will also have to get used to new surroundings as about £180,000 has been spent on a new group teaching room, new toilets and a better main entrance to the school.
An old demountable classroom has been removed and improvements have been made to the early years playground and learning area.
Mrs Vine, who was former head of Langenhoe Primary School, in Colchester, said: “I am delighted to be joining Earls Colne School.
“Everyone wishes Mrs Clarke a long and happy retirement.”
