RESIDENTS in Colchester’s flats will finally be able to recycle everything people who live in houses can, thanks to a £150,000 investment.

The council has extended its service to cater for blocks of flats of three or more storeys, allowing them to recycle cans, paper, card and glass.

Previously, flat-dwellers had to travel to recycling centres. Council chiefs believe the extended scheme will generate an extra 250 tonnes of recycling a year.

Tim Young, councillor responsible for street and waste services, said: “It’s fantastic every resident in Colchester can now recycle.

“Residents living in flats now all have a reusable bag in which to store and carry their recyclables to the communal bins.

“We are committed to making Colchester a cleaner, greener place to live, work and visit.

“This extended service, with residents’ help, will make a real difference.
