Green scheme’s great for rats THE latest recycling idea from Braintree Council to place all food waste, ie, meat, fish bones, bread, rice, pizza etc, into our green compost bin leaves me extremely surprised.

Surely this is not a very good idea.

I’m sure the local rats, mice, seagulls and flies will be all for it.

They’ll be able to get all the food they want at one stop.

Also, I don’t think I would like to live in the vicinity of a dump in the summer.

The smell and the flies would be appaling.

Who dreamt up this idea?

MR L TULLEY Greenfields Gosfield One solution to messy problem OVER the past few weeks we have read stories in this paper about dog walkers not clearing up their pet’s mess from paths and beaches.

In the Gazette on September 3, the story was that Frinton was to start its own patrols to catch the people who do not clean up.

This is a great idea but has one downside. You have to be there at the time and see them walk away leaving the mess behind, otherwise it is very hard to prove that it was a certain dog and owner that left it behind.

Surely the only way to stop dog walkers leaving the pet’s mess behind is to stop anyone walking a dog and fine them on the spot if they do not have the means to pick up their dog’s mess.

If they had to have plastic bags on them, most would use them. This would be the easiest way round the problem.

If the law was changed, so dog walkers had to have plastic bags on them while walking their dogs, it would be fairer to all, as at the moment even the responsible dog owners who do clean up their pet’s mess get tarred with the same brush as those who don’t.
