MY family and I lived in Basildon from 1955 until 1989. During those years we were involved in sport, competing, organising events and forming new sports clubs.
For instance, my wife and I founded the Basildon Cycling Club in 1957 and I was a founder member of Basildon Sports Council in 1959.
In the 70s and 80s I was a founder member of the Sports Council Club in the Murrayfield Pavilion, a founder member of Radio Basildon and secretray of the Basildon Athletic Club. My wife was the club’s race walking secretary.
I am writing the story of our lives for our grandchildren and have just covered the period of the 60 and 70s. I have been looking at lots of old newspaper cuttings regarding us and sport in Basildon.
This reminded me in particular of 1969 when I organised the Inter New Town Festival of Sport which Basildon hosted.
I wonder if there are people in Basildon from that period who might be interested in contacting me as I have quite a few photos of the day. I will be pleased to hear from you.
