THE Human Shrub has been labelled the “Banksy of the gardening world” ahead of an appearance at the Conservative Party Conference.
The green-fingered entity will join a gorilla, local councillors and shadow cabinet members to highlight the decline in planting and green spaces in new developments across the country.
The Human Shrub, who has yet to be officially identified, will do a spot of gardening as part of the Greening the UK campaign, in front of Manchester Town Hall tomorrow morning.
The appearance is likely to further claims by politicians from other parties that he is a Tory “plant”.
He said: “In the current climate, and in particular given the plight of the bees, it is utterly disgraceful there has been up to a 50 per cent decline in the amount of planting and green spaces actually delivered on new builds over the last decade.
“We need a radical approach to planting and all of the political humans need to unite and start implementing policies on this immediately.”
The shrub first appeared during “Shrubgate” and won international attention after he restocked planters which he felt needed more attention.
His concern for the plight of bees has resulted in him writing to and receiving a letter in return from Buckingham Palace.
The letter, written by correspondence officer Sonia Bonice, states the letter has been forward to Hilary Benn MP, the secretary of state for the environment, food and rural affairs, and Lord Mandelson.
It states “Her Majesty has taken careful note of your comments.”
