THE broadband network in north Essex is not up to scratch, according to a business group.
Country Land and Business Association said the difference in speeds is dividing urban and rural communities.
It claims internet connections are so slow in some areas of rural Britain, including Coggeshall, that offices cannot be let, children cannot do homework and some homes cannot sell.
The association was responding to comments from networking equipment supplier Cisco, suggesting the UK has broadband that meets the country’s needs.
Nichola Currie, the association’s eastern region director, said: “Every county in this region has areas where fast, affordable broadband is simply unavailable.”
A spokesman for Coggeshall tourist attraction Marks Hall Gardens & Arboretum said: “It might not be as fast as elsewhere and it can be irritating at times, but if you don’t know any different you don’t mind.”
