TWO men are in hospital with severe burns and a third is being quizzed by police after a suspected burglary at an electricity substation.

Firefighters were called to a suspected explosion at the substation, in Factory Lane, Brantham, at around 10pm on Monday.

Meanwhile, Ambulance crews were called to nearby Cattawade Street, to treat a man thought to have suffered 60 per cent burns as a result of the explosion.

A Suffolk Police spokesman said: “Two males in their twenties were taken to Colchester Hospital before being transferred to Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford.

“A 26-year-old man from Ipswich has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and is in custody at Ipswich police station.”

A spokesperson for the Suffolk Ambulance Service added that a 24-year-old man reportedly suffered 60 per cent burns.

Scenes of crime officers from Suffolk Police were at the site yesterday morning.

The two injured men were due to undergo operations yesterday.
