A FAMILY of Christmas tree growers have provided another boost for cancer patients.
The Smiths, of Boxted, raised just over £1,720 with their annual hog roast in aid of the breast care unit at Essex County Hospital, in Colchester.
Maureen Smith, wife of Fred, who founded Fred Smith’s Christmas Trees, was successfully treated for a breast tumour several years ago and started the annual bash to show her gratitude.
This time, an additional cheque was presented, as Boxted couple Brian and Pip Phillips had recently celebrated their ruby wedding and generated £140 by asking for donations to the cause instead of presents.
The Marks Tey-based Silver Threads Club also chipped in with £153.
