I despair when I read further what utter chaos the closure of the Alderman Blaxill and Thomas Lord Audley schools will have on Colchester.

Through the Gazette, I have passionately expressed my views on these ridiculous closures.

These views were quite simplistic and based on what I thought made common sense.

It doesn’t matter that the closures will not affect me personally, but I do care what a devastating effect it will have on the communities of Berechurch and Shrub End.

I have lived long enough to watch the gradual deterioration overdevelopment has caused to the community in which I reside.

It matters little to the developers that they cause this deterioration and fail to provide us with something in return. Its all about the bottom line, and as long as it’s not in their back yard.

What I’d like to witness before the tumbleweed blows by my front door is this: All our councillors, irrespective of their political persuasion, should take a deep breath and give serious consideration to the upheaval this Essex County Council unpopular schools restructuring will have on the multitude of Colchester citizens.

To just shrug your shoulders and say it’s OK as long as it doesn’t affect your children will probably turn out to be the most selfish decision you are likely to make.

Maybe one day it will transpire that what you were offered was a poisoned chalice which was intended to divide communities.

Therefore making the Essex County Council task so much easier.

Who is going to pick up the pieces?
