TWO mums walked from Witham to Clacton to raise cash for majorettes.

Caroline Grogan, who jointly runs Platinum Majorettes, in Witham, trekked from Witham Rugby Club to Clacton Pier.

She and fellow mum, Tara Luckett, camped overnight at Colchester Camping and Caravan Park during their fundraising effort.

Mrs Grogan, who runs the group with Lauren Gage, said: “It was cold, but we got a takeaway and made the best of it, so it was fun in the end.”

Platinum Majorettes has been going since May and the group has won five trophies at five carnivals. They have 27 members, both girls and boys, with ages ranging from three to 24.

Mrs Grogan said the group relies solely on donations and the cash raised by the walk will go towards new uniforms.

It was the third time Mrs Grogan had walked from Witham to Clacton.

She previously raised money for another majorette group and the baby unit at St John’s Hospital, Chelmsford.

The pair hope the walk, which took about ten hours, will raise £800.
