THEY’RE the oldest swingers in town.
Despite their combined age of 154, karaoke fanatics Len Oliver and Brian Lock are regulars at the mic in Colchester’s pubs and clubs.
They have won competitions and wowed much younger audiences.
The Monkwick residents have vowed to not stop singing until they are heckled off the stage.
Mr Oliver, 83, said: “I reckon we’ve sung at every pub, club and bar in Colchester over the years, as well as in the Moot Hall and Culver Square, and we’ve sung all over the world on holidays.
“We just enjoy singing and I think people enjoy what we do as well. No one has thrown eggs at us yet.”
It all started at a darts match, in Braintree, 15 years ago.
Mr Lock, 71, said: “There was a chap with a karaoke microphone there and we both had a go and were hooked.
“We’re often twice as old as the other singers and people are surprised when we get up with our grey hair and wrinkles, and even more so when we sing.
“We’ve entered the Yates’ competition for the last 11 years and won the top £500 price twice, but it’s getting harder as the young girls, in particular, are getting better.”
