BRANDON Block, one of the most charismatic DJs in the country, is going to rock the house this weekend.
The Blockster is bringing his uplifting party house music to Escape, in Copford, tomorrow, as part of the club’s Mighty Bash all-inclusive night.
Brandon’s DJing career started, in 1988, in the early days of acid house.
Then, at the Zig Zag night, at Broadway Boulevard, in Ealing, his reputation grew.
Having established himself in the club scene in the south of England, in 1990 he took his first trip to Ibiza.
It has since become an annual pilgrimage for the DJ, establishing him as an essential part of the island’s DJ scene.
He was one of the first resident DJs at the island’s Space club. His residency, alongside Alex P, was arguably one of the driving forces behind the club’s worldwide notoriety as one of the best places to party.
Brandon also hosted a show with Alex P on MTV Dance, where they toured Ibiza interviewing clubbers from around the island and playing the latest dance videos.
His TV credits also include appearances on Trust Me! I’m a Holiday Rep, Off Your Med, Banzai, and Never Mind the Buzzcocks.
But his drunken appearance at the 2000 Brit Awards, when he confronted presenter Ronnie Wood after he was told by friends he had won a category for which he hadn’t even been nominated, will perhaps stick out in many people’s memories.
For radio, Brandon hosted a show, with Alex P on Kiss 100 FM, released two compilation albums for Fantazia, produced an essential mix for Radio 1, and had chart hits, in 1999, under the name Blockster, with You Should Be... and Grooveline.
