Colcestrians took a moment to think about their loved ones at a special Christmas ceremony.
St Helena Hospice invited members of the public to take part in its Light up a Life event last Sunday.
Led by the Salvation Army band, participants walked from the top of North Hill, along the high street and into Castle Park, accompanied by hospice director Rosie Stamp, trustees' chair Christopher Pertwee and Colchester mayor Henry Spyvee.
A short service followed, including readings and prayer, plus songs from the choir from Colchester County High School for Girls.
Participants were then invited to light a candle for their loved one.
