A Big Issue seller who was a familiar face in Clacton town centre took his own life, an inquest heard.
David Bowyer, 24, who had sold the magazine to help the homeless for years, was found hanging in his home in Boxted Avenue, Clacton, last June.
The inquest into his death yesterday heard Mr Bowyer had been suffering from schizophrenia but had not been taking his medication.
PC Dave Bishop of Clacton police told the inquest he visited Mr Bowyer the day before to record an assault which had left him shaken.
Essex Coroner Caroline Beasley-Murray recorded a verdict of suicide while suffering from a mental illness.
