Colchester MP Bob Russell has called for more details on the latest St Botolph's regeneration public consultation.
The Lib Dem councillor wants more openness on the controversial multi-million pound masterplan.
He has sent a list of questions to Colchester Council chief executive Adrian Pritchard following a recent special meeting debate.
He said: "The Tory administration is out of step with the people of Colchester.
"It is quite clear the majority of councillors have been kept in the dark on this and, if the councillors have been kept in the dark, so have the people of Colchester. And that's no good for democracy."
Robert Davidson, Colchester Council regeneration and partnerships portfolio holder, said: "I refute Mr Russell's claims quite strongly.
"All of the political groups have been briefed over the last few weeks and there is no need for any of the councillors to be 'in the "dark' as he calls it."
