Lynette Flint of Cressing, who was an Essex special constable for ten years and divisional officer at Braintree for nearly two years, is the first woman in the Essex special constabulary to be promoted to the rank of Assistant Commandant.
In her new role, Ms Flint will be responsible for health and safety issues and training, as well as the supervision of four divisions: Chelmsford, Braintree, Colchester and Tendring.
Ms Flint runs a carpet and soft furnishing shop in Great Dunmow and has been a Braintree councillor for the last 22 years, representing Cressing and Stisted as an independent.
She said: "I am really chuffed about my new role but sad to be relinquishing my role as divisional officer for Braintree."
