A man has been told to pay a fellow driver £750 compensation for a road rage attack on the A12.

A court heard how 31-year-old Wayne Sharpe thought he had been cut up by BMW driver Rodney Holroyd so he punched him on the face.

Moments earlier, Sharpe had collided with the back of Mr Holroyd's car when both cars had turned off the A12 at Marks Tey.

Sharpe was told by a Chelmsford Crown Court judge his behaviour had been "quite disgraceful".

Sharpe, of Grove Road, Dunstable, admitted a charge of common assault and was given a 180-hour punishment order as well as the compensation order.

Richard Kelly, mitigating, said Sharpe was under the impression Mr Holroyd had cut him up on the A12.

"In a moment of madness he lost his temper," Mr Kelly added.
