Scores of concerned residents claim a much needed playground could lead to an outbreak of anti-social behaviour and vandalism.
More than 50 people have put their protests to the park - on Greenstead Slopes, Colchester - in writing.
Colchester Council says the site, between Harwich Road and Lime Avenue, is far enough away from homes.
But residents have drawn up a list of objections to the project which has £45,000 of funding. They claim the field should be kept as meadowland.
