The mother of murder victim Sally Geeson says the Army is responsible for her daughter's death.
Sue Geeson, 46, of Colworthy, Shoebury, hit out after it emerged that information about her killer's previous convictions, including one for falsely imprisoning a young woman, was not passed to police.
Lance corporal David Atkinson committed suicide as he was being hunted by detectives for Sally's murder.
Speaking on Radio Four's programme File on 4, Mrs Geeson said: "I think the army are responsible for her death. I think they've got a lot to answer for.
"The army knew his record, they knew what he'd done and what he was probably capable of. The police had nothing on their national database with regards to Atkinson and his convictions or the fact that he was even in the area.
"The public wasn't protected, and it resulted in us losing Sally."
