A pilot scheme is being launched today in a bid to provide villagers with a vital transport link to their doctor's surgery five miles away.

Residents in Little Clacton were up in arms after their branch premises was closed down last year. They were left with having to find their own way to the main surgery in Great Bentley to see their GP.

Now, a new service is being set up to take the patients to and from the practice once a week.

Suzanne Bacon, corporate communications spokesman for Tendring Primary Care Trust, said the pilot scheme would operate for one month and would be reviewed at the end of that time.

If it is successful and is used by the patients, it could be extended.
