Plans for a care home for troubled youngsters have been dropped after a campaign by villagers.
The scheme, for six young people, has been shelved because of the "level of scrutiny" the youngsters would have been under from opponents.
When Northern Care announced it wanted to build the care home in Shoebury Road, Great Wakering, residents started a petition and bombard Rochford Council with objection letters.
The company provides housing for young people aged between five and 18, including those with emotional issues, behavioural problems and boys who display "sexually inappropriate" behaviour.
Residents were worried about who would be put into the Great Wakering care home. Now the company has written to Rochford District Council to withdraw its application.
