A group which represents blind people has welcomed a curb on cyclists riding on pavements.

Harwich police this month have clamped down on riders who do not use the road, those without lights, or those who have unroadworthy bikes.

Their initiative officially ended yesterday, but the National Federation of the Blind called for it to continue and expand.

A spokesman for the NFB said: "We welcome the month-long initiative by Harwich police.

"But NFB is concerned that this initiative is for just one month. After the month's campaign, this initiative should become part of normal police daily duties within the Essex force."
