Colchester United have praised a rival team's decision to axe a commentator who made an offensive jibe about a U's player.
Paul Rice, 48, made the remark as he commentated on the U's 1-1 draw with Tranmere Rovers on February 12.
He was describing the action at Prenton Park for a match video when he called midfielder Neil Danns a derogatory name. The commentary was not broadcast but fans complained after overhearing Mr Rice.
Mr Rice told a national newspaper he regretted the remark.
But Tranmere Rovers' chairman Lorraine Rogers said the club was becoming increasingly concerned about the volunteer pundit.
"We found his style of commentary didn't reflect the values of the club so we have parted company," Miss Rogers told the Gazette.
U's chief exec Marie Partner said: "This matter was more for Tranmere to deal with than us.
"We are glad to see it has been dealt with in a swift manner."
