A man who bit a policeman has received a community punishment and rehabilitation order.
Chelmsford Magistrates' Court was told yesterday how Tino Treldar, 27, of Glebe Road, Braintree, assaulted a police constable after he was arrested following a disturbance at the address on January 23.
At a previous hearing, he had admitted a charge of assault on a police constable and another of violence to secure entry to a property.
Daniel O'Malley, prosecuting, said Treldar had been out drinking at Chicago's Rock Cafe in Braintree with his father before he went to the house in Glebe Road, where he lived with his girlfriend.
Police were called after Treldar had tried to force open the front door. When police entered the house, Treldar shouted verbal abuse at officers and he was arrested, taken to the station and handcuffed.
He then bit a police constable on the arm, leaving a mark on the skin an inch in diameter, despite the constable wearing a fleece jacket.
Mark Francis, mitigating, said: "At the house he reacted in the way he did because he was surprised by the police.
"He accepts he overreacted, that he has a drink problem and can behave badly when he is drunk."
Chairman of the bench, Lesley Southern, handed Treldar a community punishment and rehabilitation order consisting of 60 hours community work and 18 months under the supervision of a probation officer for his drink problem.
