Colchester United boss Phil Parkinson felt that his side were guilty of not taking the game to Hull City and paid the price for it.
The U's lost 2-0 at the Kingston Communication Stadium, conceding two soft goals in the first half from Leon Cort and Nicky Barmby.
Parkinson said: "When you come to a place like Hull you need to get at them within those first 30 minutes and upset them. You can't let them play otherwise you will pay the price."
The U's picked their game up in the second period and Parkinson accurately described the match after the final whistle.
He said: "In the first half we were poor, in the second we were better. We had two great chances to get back in the match in the second half, but we didn't take them."
