Quitting smoking could bag you a brand new bike.

By exchanging your cigarettes, ashtray and lighter for a goody bag you could win a new bicycle from Maldon and South Chelmsford Primary Care Trust (PCT).

The stop smoking support team at the PCT is gearing up for national No Smoking Day on March 9.

The team will be at All Saints' Church in Maldon High Street, Burnham Co-op and the South Woodham Ferrers bandstand between 10am and 4pm on March 9, promoting a Fags For Bags initiative.

The bags will contain a mixture of goodies including pens, mouse-mats, breath fresheners and even toothbrushes.

In addition, everyone who pledges to quit will be entered into a free prize draw with a bicycle up for grabs at each of the three locations, together with a free cycling training session.

The PCT's smoking cessation co-ordinator Mary Marsh said: "Many people need a focal point for giving up and No Smoking Day will, for many people, be the catalyst they need to quit the habit."
