A treatment programme for inmates at Bullwood Hall women's prison has won a national award for helping prisoners beat drug addiction.

The drug rehabilitation unit at the Hockley jail has been such a success that there are plans to roll it out to women's prisons across the whole of the country.

The scheme has been awarded the Wates Foundation Award for work with female offenders by the Butler Trust, which promotes the work of staff and volunteers in UK prisons.

The treatment plan was developed by the drug rehabilitation team, who took ideas used in men's prisons and transformed them to appeal to female inmates.
