Southend's sporting superstar Adam Hickey will be fully fit to run for Great Britain in next month's World Cross-Country Championships.

The teenager will be back in action on Saturday, March 5, to lead the Essex bid for the under-17 inter-counties crown at the Reebok event at Nottingham.

Hickey won the under-17 race and led the Southend squad to victory at that age group at last weekend's English National Champion-ship in Birmingham.

He wore strapping on his right knee after he and under-17 team-mate David Crichton were injured in a collision with fellow athletes during a training session on the track at Southend's Garon Park.

Hickey received specialist advice on the injury this week. The physios at Crystal Palace said the problem is likely to clear up quickly.

The injury did not stop Hickey (20.13) winning the 6km event by 28 seconds with the seasiders' line-up being completed by Mark Bailey (4th 20.52), Crichton (8th 20.58) and Chris Lee (26th 21.43).
