Tea and nostalgia will be served up in a new cafeteria planned for St Peter's Hospital in Maldon.
By the end of this year, patients, staff and visitors could be snacking among cafe screens, seated at tables reflecting the heritage of the hospital and Maldon area.
But the artists need the help of Maldon residents to make it happen.
An Enhancing the Healing Environment team has been assembled to transform the old cafe and husband-and-wife artists Carpenter & Carpenter, of Leigh-on-Sea, have been recruited to develop lead artist Lisa Hawker's concepts.
Andrew and Lorraine Carpenter also hope to run workshops with Maldon school students and St Peter's Hospital patients.
"We urge everyone in Maldon with an interesting story from the past 40-plus years to get in touch," said Ms Hawker.
If you have any stories about St Peter's Hospital, or its original use as a workhouse, please contact the hospital on 01621 727326 quoting "cafe project" and leave your contact details and a short message. Alternatively you can e-mail lisa@lisahawk er.com
