The chairman of Messing Parish Council has backed claims by protesters that the planned new site for a community centre just outside Tiptree is in a conservation area.

Roger Carter said although the plot of land in Colchester Road was not in the parish of Messing, the parish council was entitled to express its views.

The Gazette revealed how an action group had been formed to protest again the plans to build the new Tiptree centre on 10 acres of the site.

The application was submitted to Colchester Council by Tiptree Parish Council and local landowner Paul Hiller, who wants to use the remaining ten acres for a country home.

Angry Tiptree residents want the centre to be within the village and feel the new site is unaccessible and in an area of natural beauty.

The application will be discussed in detail tonight at a meeting of Tiptree Parish Council, to be held at 7.30pm at Thurstable School.
