A dedicated midwife has been nominated for an award for her compassionate care of bereaved parents.
Niki Allen, a midwife at Southend Hospital, has been put forward for the national Child Bereavement Trust award by Allison Morrissey, who lost her first baby Tamsin seven months into her pregnancy.
Heartbroken Allison and her husband Billy were supported and comforted by Niki, who answered their questions and gave them the strength to carry on.
The couple from Southend have even gone on to have another baby, Poppy, now eight months.
Niki, 38, identified the need for a special bereavement support midwife at the hospital after two women in her care lost their babies at full term.
