Police have warned that they will crack down heavily on louts who went on a vandalism spree in Hatfield Peverel.
Yobs pushed over and cracked a concrete litter bin, caused damage to drainpipes and left rubbish in shop doorways in Hadfelda Square on Thursday night.
The main businesses affected include Reflections hairdressers and Moss chemists.
According to shopkeepers, there has been a problem since the start of the year, with gangs of youths gathering in the sqaure late at night.
A spokeman for Essex Police said: "This is another example of yobs creating havoc and making life a misery for residents and shopkeepers.
"A tough approach will be taken towards the people responsible for this vandalism, and we will crack down heavily on this kind of anti-social behaviour."
