A metal detector find could have ended in disaster for Terry Mallison - he found four live bullets in a field.
Live ammunition - Terry Mallison found four live bullets while metal detecting in a field. (41191-1)
The 43-year-old had the ammo for several days before ringing police, who called in a bomb disposal team to take away the find.
Mr Mallison, who lives in Shrub End, Colchester, said: "I do metal detecting as a hobby and found live ammo in a field in Inworth. There were three bullets and a couple of bullet heads."
He said the 15cm-long bullets, which he kept in water to keep them moist, may have been Second World War anti-aircraft ammunition.
