Want to enjoy a tour of the site of Colchester's new multi-million pound art gallery?

Come this way - David Grocott, of the Firstsite Gallery, will be giving guided tours of the site where Colchester's new multi-million pound art gallery is supposed to be built. Picture: ROB SAMBROOK (41184-2)

Well you've got until 2007 before they end. David Grocott, Firstsite marketing officer, has decided to run the 20-minute tours every weekday until the gallery opens, which is pencilled in for three years' time.

Not taking into account holidays, it works out at roughly 780 tours in all - so there will be plenty of opportunities to take one.

Mr Grocott said: "It does sound a lot but why not? I'm sure there will be some days when nobody turns up but at noon each day, I will be available to take the tour.

How it could look - an artist's impression of Colchester's new multi-million pound art gallery.

"Even when the building starts, we plan to run hard hat tours so in theory they should continue right up until the day the gallery opens."

Designed by world-famous architect Rafael Vinoly, the building will contain a cinema, art gallery, restaurant, conference facilities and an education centre and will sit in the centre of a new park for Colchester on the site of Colchester's bus park.
