A bid to unlock European cash to help boost town-twinning celebrations has been taken to the top.

A delegation from Tendring, Valence in France, Biberach in Germany and Asti in Italy travelled to Brussels in an effort to secure a grant.

They are hoping they could land thousands of pounds to mark the 40th anniversary of their link-up.

Bert Foster, chairman of Tendring Town Twinning Association, said the talks at the European Commission were very successful.

"We are looking at securing funding for 2008, as it will be 40 years since the former Clacton Urban District Council first established a link with Valence," he said.

"We will obviously be planning a big celebration and are hoping that there will be some money available to help pay for that."
