More than £300,000 is to be spent on upgrading and improving facilities at Tendring Adult Community College.
The cash is being pumped into the Harwich site by Essex County Council to bring it up to standard for use by people with disabilities.
The scheme will include installing a lift to the ground, first and second floors, and a special platform lift to provide access in the hall.
The improvement works will make the building totally compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act and give the college greater flexibility when planning its various courses.
The total cost of the scheme is £313,114, which includes £160,000 on alterations, £100,000 on lifts and £52,000 on all the external works.
The work is due to start on site in about three months time and should be completed by November at the latest.
