Developers have outlined proposals for increasing the number of new homes planned for the south of Witham.
Andrew Martin Associates wants to increase the number of homes to be built on the Maltings Lane site by almost 400 to about 1,240.
The firm claims the new housing can be built without increasing road traffic by persuading people to switch to other types of transport.
David Phillips, of Andrew Martin Associates, presented outline plans to the Maltings Lane Forum last night.
But forum members were sceptical about the possible impact on traffic.
Developers are waiting for feedback before lodging an official planning application.
