Year six youngsters got the chance to scrum down at the Southend Schools' Tag Rugby tournament.
More than 200 people turned up to watch16 mixed teams from across the borough compete in the seven-a-side competition which was held at Southend Rugby Club's Warner's Bridge home and organised by Kirk Edwards and Peter Melville.
The teams, which also included two special needs sides, were put through their paces by coaches from both Southend and Westcliff rugby clubs.
The Championship competition was won by Westcliff's Westborough Primary School. Leigh's Heycroft B came runners-up, with Heycroft A third and Shoebury's Friars Junior Mixed and Infants School fourth.
In the Cup tournament,Thorpedene were the victors, with Shoebury's St George's second.
Westcliff schools, Earls Hall and Prince Avenue, were third and fourth respectively. Southend's Bournes Green School were top dogs in the Shield.
Temple Sutton came second, with Bournemouth Park and Thorpe Greenway just behind.
Shoebury's Richmond school won the Plate, with St Nicholas second, Bournemouth Park 2 third and St Christophers fourth.
Chairman of Southend Rugby Club, Neil Harding, said: "It was a very good day and all the children who took part enjoyed themselves.
"It is good to see that rugby is thriving among schools in the Southend area."
