For the second week running there were enormous catches taken at the Gloucester Park Open, with winner Wayne Hughes weighing in a tremendous 147lb 5oz haul.

The runner-up weights were also impressive with the top three anglers netting over 270lb of fish between them.

Winner Wayne fished toward the end of the cockle bank where he needed two keepnets to house his twenty carp 147lb 5oz haul.

He tempted the carp with waggler tactics using trout pellet and sweetcorn baits.

Wayne missed breaking the venue's match record by less than five pounds, thanks to a blank first hour in which he missed five good bites.

Second place went to lake regular Sid Hammond who weighed in eight carp for 63lb 1oz.

Sid also fished the cockle bank where he alternated between waggler and bomb tactics fishing trout pellet and sweetcorn baits.

Sid's catch could also have been a lot larger, he lost seven good fish. Third place went to John Masheter who weighed in eleven carp for 60lb 14oz.

Once again the cockle bank was the prolific area, with John weighing in fish to a best of 13lb 8oz.

The next Gloucester Park Open will take place on Sunday, (February 27th). Pike, zander and barbel will not be weighed in, with bloodworm and joker both barred. Entry will cost £15, (£11 cash pools, and a £4 day ticket).

There are now two golden pegs worth over £250 each, subject to a minimum of 14 anglers.
