The Highways Agency is conducting a public consultation exercise on its proposals for replacing the existing A120 between Braintree and Marks Tey with a new dual carriageway.

The road would run north of Cressing and Silver End, between Coggeshall and Kelvedon, and join the A12 north of Feering.

But many residents in the area are unhappy that a range of route options has not been put forward.

Among the protesters are the owners of Prested Hall, Feering, a country house hotel whose grounds and ancient half-mile approach avenue would be dissected by the A12, which would be rerouted to link up with the A120 at a new junction nearby.

They have formed a group to campaign for changes to the Highways Agency's plans.

The Highways Agency has said it ruled out all the other possible routes because they would cost too much.
